Processing Rabbits, Dates TBD (First Class End of March), $100/person
Rabbits are one of the most reliable sources of homegrown meat for any homestead. Keeping just three adult (1 male and 2 females) rabbits year-round can easily produce over 200 pounds of meat a year! Raising rabbits takes up relatively little space and they can easily be kept in a corner of the backyard or in a small shed.
Rabbit meat is lean and versatile, taking well to cooking in the frying pan, in the oven, on the grill, and even to being canned for long-term preservation. It is similar to chicken in texture and flavor, although we typically find our rabbits to be much juicier than most chicken we’ve had. It is also simple to learn how to process your own rabbits at home with minimal equipment!
Given how AWESOME rabbits are for anyone interested in being more self-sufficient and producing their own food, we are excited to offer up the opportunity for folks to come out and join us for a workshop where you can learn exactly how we harvest rabbits here at Mountain in the Mist and get some hands-on experience with the process yourself!

First we will lead a demonstration of the harvesting process for everyone to watch and see the tips and tricks we have learned to make it as smooth and efficient as possible. Then each participant will get to dispatch and butcher their own rabbit to take home and enjoy. Our freezer rabbits are currently at the ideal age for processing and weigh approximately 6 pounds each.
We will begin our rabbit processing courses at the end of March and continue through July. They take around 2 hours and the cost for each participant is $100. This includes the group demonstration, one-on-one instruction while you are processing your rabbit, and of course the delicious rabbit that you butchered to bring home and enjoy. We have a limited number of rabbits available, so message us as soon as possible if you’re interested in attending.
